Why I'm Leaving META: Concious Leadership in the Age of Digital Collapse, Part 1
The Energetics and Ethics of Digital Presence in Leadership
I decided a little while ago to no longer spend time on Instagram and Facebook. My decision isn’t based on a single headline or political moment but rather on a deeper truth: I can no longer ignore how these platforms make me feel.
The way I see it, huge systems that determine how resources and power are generated and distributed are falling apart. This is both terrifying and liberating. It’s a time of deconstruction, and with that comes the possibility of renewal.
The possibility of renewal; if and only if in the wake of crumbling, we’re called toward clarity of what matters to us.
So instead of making this about the external – META’s leadership, our political system, the court rulings – I want to share what’s profoundly true for me. Because at the most fundamental level, this decision stems from the intelligence of my embodied experience.
The Energetics of Social Media: A Mismatch with My Leadership
Lately, when I’m on META platforms, I feel:
Chaotic.
Reactive.
Graspy.
Disoriented.
Disconnected from my higher guidance.
Without making this about anything or anyone outside of me, I simply know this isn’t how I want to feel – and that information is enough.
It’s important to acknowledge that stepping away is a privilege. My livelihood doesn’t rely on these platforms the way it does for many others, and I honor those navigating different constraints. But for me, this is about alignment and integrity.
The Great Crumbling: A Call to Conscious Leaders
I’m suddenly, blissfully clear on what I care about and how I want to be in the world. I care about freedom of speech. I believe in political leadership free from oligarchy and abuse of power. I believe in a neutral judicial system. I care about embodying my privileges in a way that builds a more balanced world.
It feels good and right to know what we believe in and say yes to it, because when we do, we are saying yes to an immeasurable amount of support – our inner compass, our ancestral wisdom, and the opportunities that unfold when we act in alignment with truth.
I feel optimistic. I see this as a time for us to emerge as builders of our own reality.
This isn’t about morality or ethics (though those conversations are essential and forthcoming). The things I believe in need not also matter to you for us to stand together.
Instead, this is about understanding that energetics underlie everything in our reality. And for me, trying to extend my impact on a platform that is at odds with the type of world I desire to build simply will not work. It is an energetic mismatch, therefore it will be a material mismatch. Plain and simple.
(Stay tuned for Part 2, where I share what I’m saying YES to in the wake of this decision – and the new commitments shaping my leadership.)
